Maintenance and repair of diesel engine
Time of issue:
2022-10-09
Protective measures shall be taken for diesel engine repair.
1. For example, anti-collision and wear-resistant metal and rubber fender materials shall be set up at the bow, wharf and side which are often subject to friction, and wear-resistant rubber and plastic soft materials shall be laid on the deck.
2. Timely repair any damage found. Check the hull frequently. If resin peeling, deep scratches and exposed fibers are found, they must be repaired in time, otherwise the damage will be accelerated due to water infiltration.
3. When not in use, especially in cold winter, it should be placed ashore. Due to the water absorption of glass fiber reinforced plastics, water can gradually penetrate into the interior along the micro channel at the interface between glass fiber and resin, resulting in a gradual decline in the strength of glass fiber reinforced plastics. Especially in winter, the seeping water will freeze when it is cold, which will expand the seepage channel and cause more harm. Therefore, every winter when the boat is not in use, it should be put ashore away from the water so that the seeping water can volatilize and the strength can be gradually restored. This will extend the life of the ship. After landing, the watercraft shall be cleaned first, put in place with cushion, and put indoors. If it is put outdoors, it shall be covered with tarpaulin, and ventilated frequently to prevent moisture. When the boat is not in use for the time being, it shall be kept ashore.
4. Do not accumulate water in the watercraft for a long time. If there is water in the boat, it should be removed in time. In case of acid and alkali media such as battery liquid spilling into the boat, it must be washed and cleaned with water in time and then wiped dry.
5. Avoid long-term exposure to the sun. A shed should be set up at the boat berth. Long term exposure is not good for GRP, and the color of gel coat will also be affected.
6. Clean frequently. The surface of the boat shall be kept clean and the deck shall be scrubbed frequently. The surfaces contaminated by oil and other substances can be cleaned with ordinary household cleaners, not with highly corrosive solvents, nor with decontamination powder or metal wire, so as to avoid leaving scratches and affecting the appearance. If the stain is difficult to remove, it can be cleaned with gasoline, kerosene, diesel, toluene, xylene, styrene, acetone, etc., but must be washed with clean water immediately after washing to prevent invasion into the structure. Tools can also be used for cleaning, but bamboo, wood or plastic chips with hardness lower than that of fiberglass should be used to avoid scratching the surface. Sweat cloth, gauze, soft towel, soft foam plastic and other soft materials can be used for scrubbing.
7. Timely remove salt frost. For ships sailing in the sea area, the salt crystals (salt frost) attached to the surface of the boat should be removed in time. Because the salt crystals have the focusing effect of a convex lens under the sun, the surface layer of GRP will be accelerated to age under high temperature.
8. Wax and polish regularly. In order to make the hull bright and protect the gel coat, the surface of the boat should be waxed and polished regularly. The material can be used as car wax or special glazing wax for glass fiber reinforced plastics, which can be applied for two to three times with an interval of 2 hours to form a tough wax film on the surface of glass fiber reinforced plastics. Use a portable polishing machine to polish, so that the surface is as bright as new.
9. Apply paint to keep it beautiful and durable. The new boat with gel coat has a beautiful appearance, but after two or three years of use, the color gradually fades and loses luster, and the dark color is worse than the light color. In order to keep the appearance of the boat beautiful, when the color of the outer gel coat is old and there are many scratches, paint can be applied. Among various paints, polyurethane and epoxy resin paint are preferred. Before painting, the boat surface should be cleaned, dewaxed with mold cleaning water and other wax removers, and polished with abrasive paper. Deep scratches should be embedded with epoxy putty. Paint (spray paint) should be applied after the preliminary work is done according to the paint requirements. The painted boat is as beautiful as the new boat.
