What is cast iron?

Cast iron: the difference in the carbon content, the carbon content > 2% , calling pig iron, pig iron is also called cast iron. Pig iron contains more carbon, wear resistance, good for casting, but hard and brittle, can not be forged.

Wrought iron: iron with less than 0.04% carbon content, called ripe iron, is very soft texture, good ductility;

Steel: carbon content between 0.05~2% iron, called steel.

Therefore, what we call the Marine cast iron, that is, the cast pig iron (part of the steel pig iron) in the furnace to re-melt, and add ferroalloy, scrap steel, furnace iron to adjust the composition. Different from pig iron, cast iron is a secondary processing, mostly processed into cast iron. Casting iron has excellent casting, can be made into complex parts, generally have good cutting and processing. In addition, it has good wear resistance and shock absorption, low price characteristics.

Classification of cast iron

First, according to the existence form of carbon, cast iron can be divided into:

Carbon exists in the form of carburization, called white cast iron;

Carbon exists in the form of graphite, known as gray cast iron;

Carbon exists in the form of carburization, and partly in free graphite, called hemp mouth cast iron.

Second, according to the form of graphite, cast iron can be divided into:

Graphite is a sheet of cast iron, called gray cast iron;

Graphite is a flocculate cast iron called malleable cast iron;

Graphite is spherical cast iron called ductile cast iron;

Graphite worm-like cast iron called vermicular cast iron.

DMTech cast iron repair technology

DMTech summarizes the material characteristics of different parts and their defects usually found, and improves reconditioning technology of all kinds of cast iron parts . DMTech adopts cast iron welding, plasma welding, argon arc welding, laser cladding, chrome plating and brush plating , surface grinding and other processes, committing to recondition and repair ME and AE cast-iron parts, which supply shipowners different solutions when ship repair and low the ship running cost.
